: : An interesting read & some nice info on there.
: :
: : For me and I would imagine most serious flyer collectors (although I could be wrong) do not collect / buy original flyers for investment purposes. I collect because 'rave' culture paid an important part of my life. My dad was avid collector of football programs / stamps / first day covers etc etc.. so I guess I caught the collecting bug from him (although this only energed a couple of years back).
: :
: : Do I want an original flyer, yes of course.. what would the point be of owning a copy.. the whole point for me about collecting is having the item that was produced at the time for that specfic event. Yes, they only cost a small amount to print at the time, but if they are now hard to obtain they are worth more to me as a collector because I want it and it will be worth as much as me or another bidder is willing to pay.
: :
: : Your point about them all being fakes, well from an art point of view.. fair enough.. but I'm not so interested in the art, I'm interested in the flyer and what it represents. So a reprint of a flyer is well just a fake flyer..
: :
: : Will my collection be worth anything in the future? I doubt it and don't care, but as I said, for me it has nothing to do with monetary worth.
: :
: : I agree that if anyone is buying flyers for future investment they are almost certainly in the wrong game.
:
: I hear what your saying about a point in time and a part of your past and flyers representing that, i was just raising the issue that people should be aware a great majority of flyers are fakes in themselves and anyone collecting them should be aware that because many infringe copyright laws, there will never be a point in the future these flyers will have value - just sentimental value and people should'nt get carried away and just realise that this is the case, as ive never seen it mentioned on any flyer site this issue [unless people are unaware].

I cant believe that anyone would think that the flyers thet they were collecting would be worth any serious amounts of money at all in the future and so collecting should be done just for collectings sake. I pesonally collect mine as i went to quite a lot of the nights on the flyers and like to see a full set and the fact that it isnt an original piece of art and has text of the night on mention or the DJ over the image is what i am after as it represents the night that i was there (or the night i had to miss) thus helping me remember the great nights of my youth (which is getting harder to do each week!) and i would never sell any of them for monetary gain as the memories are the most important thing and like was originally said they probably arent worth very much compared to cigarette or football cards but are a lot more personal. But you cant beat a complete set IMO. Thats what collecting is
