nothing to do with unpaid bills - in fact i've probably lost out on 3 months advance payments already made to my old hosting company
there was what looked like DoS attack on a big file on one of my other sites also hosted at hostgator.com (the hosting company) so they closed my account down (as is standard)
but it was 48 hours and 3 emails later before i was able to find out what had happened, another day and another couple of emails before i found out where they'd temporarily moved the site to, and another 2 days and 2 more emails before one of the senior support guys unsuspended my account
then i was able to download the raw logs for the month, and track down the cause
Hostgator's hosting facilities and senior support is ok, but their first level support is useless, the worst i've ever come across (in 14 months and about 30 emails to them i don't think i once had a reply where they've grasped what i'd written - in fact most of the time they didn't even bother to read past the first couple of lines before sending back a completely irrelevant reply)
so i was faced with paying for a semi-dedicated server at nearly 10 times the cost or else moving the 9 sites i had there to another host - i decided to move :)
so far the new host is ok - but as always with shared hosting, it mostly depends on the other 750+ customers that are sharing the particular server
