threads are archived after (approx) 6 months, cos otherwise the main page would grow to be too big and take too long to download for people on dial-up - also the older the post, the more likely it is to attract follow-up posts from automatic spamming programs
the alternative is to change to a new forum such as phpBB, but the advantage of wwwboard is that it's very simple, it doesn't carry ads, and the scripts are easy to customise
