: That might be because I am not sure how meta tags work (or whatever it is i have to do to get search engines to know what is in my webpages! )

meta tags don't help - the keywords meta tags is ignored by most search engines - the description meta tag is used by some search engines but only as the description of your page when it appears in the results table

search engines will usually index the pages of a site ok as long as there's a link to it from another page already in their index

the best way to get good results in search engines is to have a simple site with plenty of original plain text content, good navigation, and to use relevant page titles which match likely query terms

good search engines try and return the best pages as their top results for any particular query term - the better the content of the site, the more links will be pointing to it from quality sites, and the higher it will appear in the results of search engines such as Google and Yahoo

and it's worth submitting your site to dmoz.org
